“Like a Petal in the Wind” by Leopold Bertholet

Like a petal in the wind,

I am blown by gusts of fate.

Gusts that twist and curve and bend

To mock my light and dainty weight.

Though my elegance they scorn

Down upon these squalls I frown,

For of the rose they are the thorn

When I was once its fragrant crown!

And as I vaunt my vivid sight

In the ostentatious light,

My spirit proudly flares bright,

Like a fire in the night.

For when I finally lie below,

My worries gone, my fears thinned,

I dream with all my hopes aglow,

Like a petal in the wind.
